Now this sounds familiar

A Republican pretending to be a conservative to try and win a primary.

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain has undergone a transformation on significant issues since the failure of his presidential campaign, particularly since he has faced a challenge from a conservative rival in his Senate re-election campaign.

The AP lists some of McCain's flip flops as he tries to do his best Charlie Crist impersonation.

One thing for which I can thank McCain is that his presidential campaign smoked out those radio talkers who are not independently conservative but shills for the GOP. Liberals would accuse conservative talkers of being hacks for the party and in some cases they would be right. During the presidential campaign McCain would only go on radio shows that gave his campaign full-throated support. That list includes Hugh Hewitt, Bill Bennett and the biggest GOP shill/McCainkisser of them all Michael Medved. McCain may have had the courage to stand up to the North Vietnamese but lacked the guts to go on Rush Limbaugh during the presidential campaign.

For the good of the party McCain has to go. If McCain gets re-elected, it will embolden McCain acolytes like Crist, Lindsay Gramnesty, Mike Huckabee and by his own admission, Scott Brown. And if a Republican becomes president in 2012, McCain will go back to his old tricks of being the "maverick" of his party, advocating cap-and-trade, amnesty, and ripping conservatives while getting his fanny kissed by Matt Lauer on the TODAY Show.

Yes, the Sisko is angry.

Mohammed's Radio

You know, the Sheriff's got his problems too
He will surely take them out on you
In walked the village idiot and his face was all aglow
He's been up all night listening to Mohammed's Radio

-Warren Zevon

This must be the UAE version of the Fairness Doctrine.
A Dubai radio station fired a South African drive-time DJ for mocking religion and impersonating God on the air, the show's management said Wednesday.

The Arabian Radio Network said in a statement Revin John had been "let go" over a sketch Monday on Virgin Radio Dubai in which he quoted an article about a U.S. court throwing out a lawsuit against God.

John then pretended to act out a telephone conversation with God, prompting complaints from listeners of "diverse faiths and nationalities," said a statement written in reponse to questions from The Associated Press.
I guess you can't get Howard Stern or Bubba the Love Sponge ion the UAE. And definitely not this guy.

I must confess that part of my motivation in posting this story is the song in the title. I'm listening to an album I haven't listened to in a while called "A Quiet Normal Life: the Best of Warren Zevon. The guy had some offbeat stuff which I can appreciate. Listening to his version of "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" reveals a verse that Linda Ronstadt chose to leave off her cover. I can see why.

Unfortunately,Warren Zevon died a few years ago.

Thank you for indulging me.

Now I know How Dems on Boston...

...feel about Curt Schilling endorsing Republicans.
Barack Obama will be joined at an event today(Monday @ Steinbrenner Field in Tampa) by several members of the World Series-bound Tampa Bay Rays at an event marking the first day of early voting in the Sunshine State.

Pitcher David Price will introduce Obama, according to his campaign. Outfielder Fernando Perez, and teammates Carl Crawford, Cliff Floyd, Jonny Gomes, B.J. Upton, Edwin Jackson, and Jason Bartlett will also appear on stage.
These guys can do whatever they want. I guess my main beef is this: Obama hasn't even been coronated yet and he is everywhere. The American Federation of Teachers is running pro-Obama ads on the Rush Limbaugh Program. The country music station (both types of music - country AND western) is running ads apologizing for having to run Obama ads.

The Rays were an Obama-free zone untill now. The few sanctuaries left are Christian radio, like 90.5 Spirit FM in Tampa. That's WBVM-FM as in Blessed Virgin Mary.

If Obama everywhere now, just imagine when he gets real power.

Kinda pathetic

OK, so you're a major rock station in New York City... and the Yankees are playing three games at Fenway Park against the Red Sox. So, naturally, you want to support the team. Choices:

A - offer tickets to some die-hard road fans
B - go "Boston free" on the airwaves: no Aerosmith or Boston or any other bands from the general vicinity
C - you re-write Heart's "Magic Man" into a song insulting the Red Sox

If you went with B, you're a couple of years too late. As a result, today I got to hear a crappy Ann Wilson knockoff warbling "Try, try, try to understand, I'm a Yankees Fan." Mercifully it only lasted one verse, or I would have torn out my steering wheel and beaten myself into unconsciousness.

And for crying out tears, the least thing they could do is mention Alex Rodriguez in a Yankee song written to "Magic Man." The guy's hitting 1.287 or something. With that rotation, they ought to be ten games under .500, not sitting pretty in the AL Wild Card. (This would be yet another good reason never to forgive the Detroit Tigers.)

Surprised that it took this long

I used to listen to Imus until about 12-13 years ago. (I think I stopped because I grew up.) I'm surprised that it took this long for this fossil to get called out on racist remarks. He was saying this kind of Pferdkaese 15 years ago.

What makes it different now is that Imus has revivied his show via an incestuous relationship with PMSNBC. His show is broadcast on the cable network and many NBC news figures appear on it. He is now more than a comedian.

Only the government can censor. According to the Radio Equalizer (whom is doing great blogging about Imus
here), what's going to do Imus in is the marketplace. Advertisers are already pulling out. Will his good liberal NBC guests still come on his show when he gets back from suspension?

One clown (Imus) begging forgiveness from another clown (Revvum Al) while a third clown (Revvum Jesse) pickets the PMSNBC studios.

No job is worth debasing yourself before Al Sharpton.
